Here's an interesting bisected specimen from our Type and Figured Collection. This is PRI 5868, a fossil cephalopod (related to today's squid and octopuses) called Virgoceras cancellatum named by Rousseau H. Flower in 1939, in Palaeontographica Americana number 10. It is from the Laurel limestone, Clinton group, of the Middle Silurian Period (approximately 430 million years ago) of Westport....click here to read the full story
